1. National Museum Of Iraq
Nation Museum of Iraq is the pride of Iraq, therefore, it is known as the Iraq Museum. The museum was established in 1926 and it covers almost 5000 years of Mesopotamian history. For someone who wishes to know the history of Iraq should visit this place once in their life and see the history from his/her eyes. The ticket to the museum is very affordable and one can have a virtual tour of the museum.
2. Al-Shaheed Monument
Al-Shaheed Monument is also known as Martyr’s Memorial that is designed by Iraqi sculpture Ismail Fatah Al Turk. It was opened in 1983 and it is dedicated to those Iraqi soldiers who died in the Iran-Iraq war. The monument consists of a 132-foot tall arabesque ceiling, covered in teal-colored ceramic tiles. The huge bulb is split down the middle with an eternal flame in between the hollow insides.
3. Baghdad Zoo
Baghdad zoo was built in the year of 1972 under the Ahmad Hassan Al-Bakr. The land is almost 200 acres and home of almost 1,070 animals. In 2003 during the invasion of Iraq, the zoo was destroyed and many animals faced a horrible time. However, now the situation is different, the zoo has been restored and visitors can easily come to the zoo to see almost all types of animals.
4. Baghdadi Museum
It is one of the historical museums located in Baghdad, Iraq. The museum presents the beautiful life of Baghdad by showing the trades, professions, folk crafts, local customs, dresses, and street life. Due to the invasion of America in 2003, the museum suffered a lot of loss; and in 2008 the museum was officially opened for tourists. Many people from all over the world visit the museum to be a part of the history of Baghdad and Iraq.
5. As-Salam Palace
As-Salam Palace is the previous home of former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein; however, the palace suffered serious damage in the 2003 airstrike attack. Now it is used as a military base, however, one can visit the palace and see it from the outside.
6. Liberation Square, Baghdad
Liberation Square is located in the center of Baghdad and one of the major monuments in the country. It is also known as Tahrir Square and it is also Baghdad’s biggest and most Central Square located in Al-Rusafa part of the city.
7. The Monument to the Unknown Soldier
Italian architect Marcello D’Olivo designs the monument in the year 1979-1982. It is dedicated to the fallen Iraqi soldiers of the Iran-Iraq war. The monument to the Unknown Soldier is made out of steel, copper, marble, glass, and granite. The hill is shaped like a low, truncated cone of almost 250 meters bounded by slanting girders of trilateral sections that are roofed with marble.
8. Al-Kadhimiya Mosque
Al-Kadhimiya Mosque is a shrine type Shia Islamic mosque located in the Kādhimayn suburb of Baghdad, Iraq. The mosque has several arches and both enhancing and architectural. All the arches are beautifully decorated with bright colors, like blue, yellow, gold, pink, etc. with sophisticated flora design.
9. Natural History Museum
The Iraqi Ministry of Education that is established in 1946 supports the Natural History Museum of Baghdad, Iraq. At the present time, the Natural History Museum consists of three main departments:
- Zoological Department represents the avifauna of Iraq as well as a collection of Iraqi mammals, reptiles, fishes, and invertebrates.
- Botanical Department: In this department, surface models of Iraqi fruits and vegetables are exhibited as well as some of the specimens of plant products, economic plants, plant disease, etc.
- Geological Department: In the geological department, two of the oil companies operating in the country have participated in presenting its exhibit. The Iraq Petroleum co. presented a cement model of the geological structure Kirkuk oil fields, along with specimens of rocks, crude oil, and fossils found in Iraq.
10. University of Baghdad
The University of Baghdad is the second-largest university of Arab and is constructed based upon the Indian company NBCC. Almost 70,000 undergraduates and 10,000 students are postgraduates.
