Rubbing Alcohol is a chemical commonly found in households. This is a very powerful disinfectant. Rubbing alcohol is generally 70% isopropyl or 90%+ isopropyl. It has low water content and dries up very fast. 70% isopropyl rubbing alcohol is cheaper than the other one and can be easily found in nearby stores. 

It has antiseptic properties and is used as a bactericidal treatment. Not only for medication but it has a lot of different uses too. Rubbing alcohol uses are immense. It can also be used for personal care and household chores. 

But be careful, incorrectly using rubbing alcohol can cause skin irritation and even poisoning.  

Here we shall discuss amazing ways to use rubbing alcohol.

1. Disinfect Tick Bites 

To disinfect bites of ticks, rubbing alcohol is a great solution. First, use tweezers to remove ticks from the skin. Then take some rubbing alcohol on a cotton swab and apply it on the infected area. 

Now you might be wondering, is rubbing alcohol good for killing germs? 

Yes, alcohol use will decrease infection and help kill germs. 

2. Pierced Ears 

Alcohol can be used to clean the ear area after getting it pierced as suggested by AAD. It will prevent bacterial infection on ear and scabbing.

How to use Rubbing alcohol 

Take it on a clean cotton swab or  clean cloth. Then apply directly to the ear by rubbing it softly on the pierced area and front and back portion. Do this twice a day for healthy and non infected ears.

3. No Body Odour 

Odour causing bacteria can be killed by usage of rubbing alcohol. Body Odour is caused by bacteria that develop on skin. Areas like armpits, foot etc. are main targets. By applying alcohol on these areas bad odour can be lifted. However, avoid application of rubbing alcohol exactly after shaving. It can cause irritation and is quite harmful.

4. Clean Jewellery 

With regular usage of jewelry, dust and dirt gets accumulated on it. That dirt may have germs and pathogens in it. Therefore, removing it becomes important. It can be hard to remove without any additional material. 

Rubbing alcohol can be used by taking it on clean and soft cloth or cotton. Rub it a little to wipe off the dirt and get clean jewellery. 

5. Clean hard surfaces 

Most of the pathogens are present on hard surfaces in our houses. They are not visible by naked eyes. But our household materials are laced by them. Cleaning them properly especially if you have kids in the house is important. 

Use alcohol to kill harmful pathogens and sanitize materials. Avoid using 50% concentration or below. It is less effective and will not kill all of the germs. 

6. Remove Permanent Marker 

If you have got one, you know the struggle. Permanent markers are quite impossible to remove completely. But not if you have rubbing alcohol in your hand. It is so easy to work with and can remove marks completely. 

Apply some on the area and then let it sit for a minute or two. Wipe with a clean cloth to get a perfectly cleared area. 

7. Clean electric appliances

 Rubbing alcohol has very low water content and dries up very quickly. It is safe to use on electronic appliances as it cleans them properly without leaving any moisture in it. Moisture can damage electrical appliances. Thus, using rubbing alcohol is much safer. Use a microfiber cloth or Cotton swab to get rid of dirt and germs from electronics. 

8. Use as Deodorant 

This is an awesome use of rubbing alcohol. But, How to use rubbing alcohol as a deodorant? 

First take some essential oils like 15 drops of it. Then add rubbing alcohol to it in some amount. 

You apply it after shaving to get rid of bad odour. 

9. Sticker Removal 

Sometimes, when you remove stickers from a surface they leave sticky residue behind. And more often, they do not even get removed easily. It can be possible that you remove only half and that looks awful. 

Use alcohol to completely remove sticky residue or stickers from different surfaces. 

Just apply alcohol on stickers. Leave it for around 10 min. Then wipe with a clean cloth. Just easy as it is. Alcohol will dissolve adhesive and you get a clean and clear surface in just one go. 

10. Get rid of fruit flies 

Fruit Flies can be so irritating if they get in your house. All you can think of is getting rid of them as fast as it can be. Alcohol has an amazing use for getting rid of them. It knocks them and forces them to go outside of your house. 

11. Remove Hairspray Residue 

Using hairspray or other aerosol hair products is good but the residue left behind is not really good. it looks so unclean and hard to remove. 

Rubbing alcohol can wipe off all those sticky residues in minutes with so ease. 

For removal, apply rubbing alcohol on a paper towel and rub a little on the area. Areas like the floor, countertop are mainly affected. In around a minute you will get perfectly clean surfaces. 

12. Smelly Shoes 

If you got shoes that smell bad and you wish to get rid of the bad smell, use rubbing alcohol. Apply it inside and outside your shoes. Then keep your shoes in sunlight for some time. Sunlight and rubbing alcohol helps in killing odour causing bacteria and thus you get clean and smell free shoes. 

13. Stretch tight shoes 

Apply rubbing alcohol on the outside and inside of shoes and then wear a thick pair of socks. In sometime, your shoes will stretch out a little and will fit perfectly. 

14. Fix eyeshadows

 Broken eyeshadows can be fixed by alcohol use. Add a few drops to the eyeshadow then mix it. Put in a container of your choice and let it dry. Now they look flawless and ready to use. 

15. Stain removal from microfiber 

Apply some alcohol on stain, leave it for some time then wipe with a clean sponge or cloth. This ensures clean and clear microfiber.
